In-N-Out Burgers Menu with Prices and Calories

The In-N-Out burger menu holds three printed builds and two add ons, and the whole thing runs from a $0.50 cheese slice to the $5.90 Double-Double. There is no chicken sandwich, no veggie patty and no limited time burger. What the board offers is one patty, two patties, and the cheese that separates them.

Every burger starts from the same base: a toasted sponge dough bun, hand leafed lettuce, a slice of tomato, spread and onion on request. The published calorie counts run 360 for the Hamburger, 430 for the Cheeseburger and 610 for the Double-Double, and the gaps between those three numbers are what make the rest of the menu predictable.

The full menu page puts all 43 items side by side with prices, calories and a calories per dollar column, so a burger can be measured against fries, a shake or a full combo.

The three builds and what separates them

The Hamburger is the base of the entire menu. One beef patty, lettuce, tomato, spread and onion on a toasted bun, sold at $3.60 for 360 calories. Nothing else on the board is built from scratch. The Cheeseburger takes that exact sandwich and lays one slice of American cheese over the patty, which adds $0.50 and 70 calories to reach $4.10 and 430. The Double-Double adds a second patty and a second slice for $5.90 and 610 calories.

Those steps are consistent enough to be used as a calculator. A cheese slice is worth 70 calories and $0.50. A beef patty is worth 110 calories and $1.30. Any order the crew will build can be priced and counted from those two figures before anyone reaches the speaker box, which is the reason a 4x4 lands close to 970 calories and a Double Meat close to 470.

Adding patties and slices

In-N-Out will stack patties on request and charges by the patty rather than by a menu name. That is what makes the 3x3 and the 4x4 possible, and it is also what makes the pricing easy to predict. Three patties and three slices come to roughly $7.70. Four and four come to roughly $9.50. Restaurants have quietly capped orders above 4x4 for years, so the four patty build is the practical ceiling.

Working in the other direction is just as useful. A Double Meat removes both cheese slices from a Double-Double and saves about $1.00 and 140 calories. A Grilled Cheese removes the patty entirely and keeps two slices, landing near 390 calories. A Wish Burger removes both meat and cheese for the bun, vegetables and spread on their own at roughly 250 calories. All three sit on the not so secret menu rather than the printed board.

Preparations that change the burger and not the price

Four requests cost nothing and change the food noticeably. Animal Style cooks the patty in mustard and adds pickles, extra spread and grilled onions, which brings roughly 80 calories with it. Protein Style swaps the bun for lettuce. Extra toast holds the bun on the toaster longer for a darker face. Chopped chilis add a spoon of yellow peppers.

The one preparation with real nutritional weight is the sauce swap. Ordering a burger with mustard and ketchup instead of spread removes 60 calories from a Hamburger, 50 from a Cheeseburger and 60 from a Double-Double, and it takes 6 to 7 grams of fat out at the same time. The company prints those rows on its own nutrition sheet, which is unusual for a fast food chain and useful for anyone tracking intake.

Fat, sodium and the ceiling on a single order

A Double-Double reaches 34 grams of total fat and 15 grams of saturated fat, against a 20 gram saturated reference for a 2,000 calorie day. Sodium is the harder number. At 1,670 milligrams the Double-Double uses 73 percent of a 2,300 milligram daily reference before fries and a drink are added, and the full Double-Double combo at 1,150 calories pushes sodium past 1,800.

The reductions available are real and stack. Mustard and ketchup instead of spread takes the Double-Double to 1,600 milligrams. Protein Style takes it to 1,390. Dropping to a single patty Cheeseburger takes it to 1,080, and a plain Hamburger to 670. Anyone who needs to keep a single meal under 1,000 milligrams is looking at a Hamburger with mustard and ketchup at 610, paired with fries which contribute only 150 milligrams for the whole order.

In-N-Out burgers questions

How many burgers are on the In-N-Out menu?

Three are printed on the board: the Hamburger at $3.60, the Cheeseburger at $4.10 and the Double-Double at $5.90. Everything else people call a burger here is one of those three with patties and slices added, or a preparation the crew applies at no charge.

How many calories are in an In-N-Out Hamburger?

A Hamburger with onion carries 360 calories, 16 grams of fat, 38 grams of carbohydrate, 16 grams of protein and 670 milligrams of sodium in a 209 gram serving. Ordering it with mustard and ketchup instead of spread drops it to 300 calories and 10 grams of fat.

What is the difference between a Double-Double and a Double Meat?

A Double-Double has two patties and two cheese slices. A Double Meat has the same two patties with no cheese, which takes it from 610 calories down to about 470 and from $5.90 down to about $4.90. Double Meat is an off menu order, so it is not printed on the board.

How much does it cost to add a patty at In-N-Out?

An extra beef patty adds about $1.30 and an extra cheese slice about $0.50. Those two numbers build every larger burger. A 3x3 is a Double-Double plus one of each at roughly $7.70, and a 4x4 adds two of each at roughly $9.50.

Which In-N-Out burger has the most protein?

The Double-Double at 34 grams, which works out to about 5.8 grams of protein per dollar. The Cheeseburger carries 20 grams and the Hamburger 16. A Protein Style Double-Double keeps 30 of those 34 grams while cutting carbohydrate from 42 grams to 12.

Can you order an In-N-Out burger without the bun?

Yes. Protein Style swaps the bun for hand leafed lettuce at no extra charge and is listed on the company own not so secret menu. A Protein Style Hamburger is 210 calories, the Cheeseburger 280 and the Double-Double 460.

Why is the sodium so high on In-N-Out burgers?

The cheese and the spread carry most of it. A Hamburger sits at 670 milligrams, but adding one slice of cheese takes the Cheeseburger to 1,080 and a second slice takes the Double-Double to 1,670. Ordering with mustard and ketchup instead of spread removes 60 to 70 milligrams, and Protein Style removes about 280.
